Evaluations
Each client is evaluated by a licensed physical therapist to determine the exact physical limitations, problem areas and functional needs on an individualized basis. The areas we assess include motion, strength, muscles and soft tissue, pain, functional demands on a daily basis and each client’s goals for rehabilitation. There are many other areas that may be assessed based on a client’s diagnosis.
Treatment Planning
Based on the above findings a plan is outlined to address the problems that are found. This plan will incorporate many components and is progressed and modified as needed to achieve the goals that have been identified. Treatments may include any of the following:
Patient education of the diagnosis, the involved structures, what needs to be done to correct the problem as well as education on how to manage the problem independently.
Manual therapy which includes an assortment of techniques through which the therapist facilitates changes in the body's restrictions. They may include:
- Stretching performed by the therapist
- Mobilization or passive motion of the joints and soft tissue
- Massage
- Myofascial release
- Muscle energy techniques
Exercises for strength, flexibility, motion, balance, stability, endurance, weight training, work and athletic retraining, daily activities retraining, posture, coordination, relaxation. These are performed with the guidance of the therapist and incorporated into a program for the client to perform at home as well. This facilitates the client’s progression into independent self-management.
Modalities are used for pain relief, decreasing inflammation or muscle spasm, increasing circulation and facilitating mobility. Some of the modalities available include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, fluidotherapy, traction, heat and ice.
